Listening to Singing which Stirs Emotion

Question : a woman from Iraq asks, I fulfill the religious obligations of prayer, fasting and reciting Qur’aan with complete sincerity, but I also listen to emotional singing, which does not mention alcohol or similar prohibited matters, is this allowed? Could you advise us, may Allaah benefit you.
The Answer :
‘We advise you not to listen to singing at all because it is evil, and because it results in major corruption in the heart.
We advise you to listen to the Qur’aan radio, since it has a lot of goodness, and to listen to the ‘Noor ala Darb’ (a daily questions & answers) program, and listening to beneficial Ahadeeth. As for listening to singing then leave it and be careful of it since its evil is great.
Allaah Subhanahu said :
وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُواً أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ.
《 And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allaah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allaah, the Verses of the Qur’aan) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). 》the Ayaah.
Most of the people of knowledge have said that 《idle talks 》is singing.
Abdullaah bin Masood – RadhiAllaahu anhu – said:
(إن الغناء ينبت النفاق في القلب كما ينبت الماء البقل).
‘Indeed singing sprouts hypocrisy in the heart just as water sprouts herbs.’
Abdullaah bin Masood – RadhiAllaahu anhu – was from the Companions of the Messenger -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Salam – and from among their scholars -RadhiAllaahu unhumm Ajmaeen.
It is authentically reported from the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa Salam that he said:
((ليكونن من أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف))
‘There will definitely be from my Ummah groups of people who will make illegal intercourse, silk, alcohol and musical instruments to be allowable.’
Therefore, the Prophet informed us that at the end of time there will be people who will make musical instruments which are for amusement and singing allowable.
So, we ask Allaah to protect us and your selves and all the Muslims from its evil, and to make us all firm upon guidance. Indeed He is the All hearing, the One who is close by.’

الأغاني العاطفية
للعلامةالشيخ/عبد العزيز بن عبد الله بن باز
سائلة من العراق تقول أنا أقومبالواجبات الدينية من الصلاة والصوم وقراءة القرآن بكل إخلاص ومع ذلك أستمعللأغاني العاطفية والخالية من ذكر الخمر وما شابه ذلك من المحرمات، هل يصحذلك؟ أفيدونا أفادكم الله.
ننصحك بألا تسمعي الأغاني مطلقالأنها شر، ولأنها تفضي إلى فساد كبير في القلوب، وننصحك بسماع إذاعة القرآن فإنفيها الخير الكثير، وسماع برنامج نور على الدرب، وسماع الأحاديث النافعة المفيدة،أما سماع الأغاني فاتركيها واحذريها لأن شرها كبير وقد قال اللهسبحانه: وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْسَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُواً أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌمُهِينٌ[1] الآية. قال أكثر أهل العلم إن لهو الحديث هو الغناء، وقال عبدالله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه:(إن الغناء ينبت النفاق في القلب كما ينبت الماءالبقل). وعبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه هو من أصحاب الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلمومن علمائهم رضي الله عنهم أجمعين، وصح عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنهقال: ((ليكونن من أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمروالمعازف))[2] فأخبر أنه يكون في آخر الزمان قوم يستحلون المعازف وهي الملاهيوالأغاني، فنسأل الله أن يحمينا وإياك وجميع المسلمين من شرها، وأن يثبت الجميععلى الهدى إنه سميع قريب.
