Shaykh Muhammed bin Salih al-Uthaymeen (d.1421 A.H.) said:

‘Regarding the saying of Messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam ‘and the prayer is light (Noor)’ i.e. that the obligatory and optional prayer is light, Noor in the heart, Noor on the face, Noor in the grave, Noor on the day of Hashr, and the one who experiences this will find that Noor.

The reality of the prayer is such that whilst you are praying your heart is attentive to the prayer, and your limbs have Khushoo, you will feel that your heart has become enlightened and it has tasted absolute delight, this is why the Prophet sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam said:

‘The sweetness/pleasure of my eyes has been placed in the prayer.’

[Ahmad & graded Saheeh by Al-Albaani in Saheehah no. 3291]

Shaykh Rabee al-Madkhali said:

‘Some people turn in obedience to Allaah in this month (Ramadan) and once it has passed they fall short, become lazy and forget many acts of worship.

Indeed, there is no doubt that we should have more concern in this month [Ramadan] than in the other months, however, we must remember Allaah continuously throughout the year and throughout our lives.

<< O you who believe! Remember Allaah with much remembrance.

And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and ‘Asr prayers]. >> [Ahzab: 41-42]

Therefore, the believer remembers Allaah -Tabaraka wa Ta’ala- continuously, obeys Him, has Taqwa of Him, has Khushoo (humility) of Him and awareness of Him in every hour of his life.
