The Doors to the Heavens are Opened
إلّا فُتِحتْ له أبوابُ السَّماءِ

From Abu Huraira –RadhiAllaahu anhu- that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said:
ما قال عبدٌ لا إلهَ إلّا اللهُ قطُّ مُخلِصًا إلّا فُتِحتْ له أبوابُ السَّماءِ حتّى يُفضيَ إلى
العرشِ ما اجتُنِبت الكبائرُ
‘A slave of Allaah does not ever say ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ sincerely except that the doors to the heavens are opened for him until it reaches the ‘Arsh, as long as he keeps away from the major sins.’

An Explanation
Shaykh ul Islaam, al-Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- explained the excellence of the statement of Taqwa:
‘The statement ‘La illaha illa Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lahu’ is one for which the heavens and the earth were established. Allaah created the whole of creation for this statement, and upon it the Ummah was based and the Qiblah was placed.
For this statement the swords were unsheathed, and Allaah the Most Perfect ordered all His slaves with this statement.
It is the natural disposition upon which Allaah brought the people into existence.
It is the key to the servitude of worship of Allaah which His Messengers called the nations to.
It is the statement of Islaam, the key to the land of Salaam (Paradise).
It is the foundation of obligations and the Sunnah. Whoever’s last speech is ‘La ilaha illa Allaah’ then he enters Paradise.’

Ali al-Qari al-Harawi (d. 1014 A.H.) explained this Hadeeth saying:
[‘A slave of Allaah does not ever say] –
Meaning, sensing and having an awareness of the servitude of worship for Allaah and the state in which Allaah brought him into existence. He should remember the servitude of worship of his Lord and the Tawheed of the One he worships.
[‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ sincerely] –
This means, without showing off and boastfully displaying; or as a believer and not as a hypocrite.’

1524 – (5) [حسن] وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله – صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -:
“ما قال عبد: (لا إله إلا الله) قط مخلصاً؛ إلا فُتحت له أبواب السماء حتى يُفضي إلى العرش؛ ما اجتُنِبَتِ الكبائر”.
رواه الترمذي وقال: “حديث حسن غريب”.

قال ابن القيم – رحمه الله تعالى – مبيناً فضل كلمة التقوى:
“أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، كلمة قامت بها الأرض والسماوات، وفطر الله عليها جميع المخلوقات، وعليها أسِّست الملة، ونصبت القبلة، ولأجلها جرِّدت سيوف الجهاد، وبها أمر الله سبحانه جميع العباد؛ وهي فطرة الله التي فطر الناس عليها، ومفتاح عبوديته التي دعا الأمم على ألسن رسله إليها، وهي كلمة الإسلام، ومفتاح دار السلام، وأساس الفرض والسنّة، ومن كل آخر كلامه: لا إله إلا الله؛ دخل الجنة” [إعلام الموقعين: (2/ 6)].
2314 – (وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ – صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -: مَا قَالَ عَبْدٌ) أَيْ: مُسْتَشْعِرًا لِعُبُودِيَّتِهِ وَحُدُوثِ وَجُودِهِ، وَمُسْتَذْكِرًا لِأُلُوهِيَّةِ رَبِّهِ وَتَوْحِيدِ مَعْبُودِهِ (لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مُخْلِصًا) أَيْ: مِنْ غَيْرِ رِيَاءٍ وَسُمْعَةٍ أَوْ مُؤْمِنًا غَيْرَ مُنَافِقٍ (قَطُّ إِلَّا فُتِحَتْ) : (لَهُ) أَيْ: لِهَذَا الْكَلَامِ أَوِ الْقَوْلِ (أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ
حَتَّى يُفْضِيَ) : أَيْ: يَصِلَ (إِلَى الْعَرْشِ مَا اجْتَنَبَ) أَيْ: صَاحِبُهُ (الْكَبَائِرَ) :
. قَالَ الطِّيبِيُّ: الْحَدِيثُ السَّابِقُ دَلَّ عَلَى تَجَاوُزِهِ مِنَ الْعَرْشِ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى اللَّهِ – تَعَالَى – وَالْمُرَادُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ سُرْعَةُ الْقَبُولِ وَالِاجْتِنَابُ عَنِ الْكَبَائِرِ شَرْطٌ لِلسُّرْعَةِ، لَا لِأَجْلِ الثَّوَابِ وَالْقَبُولِ. اهـ. أَوْ لِأَجْلِ كَمَالِ الثَّوَابِ، وَأَعْلَى مَرَاتِبِ الْقَبُولِ لِأَنَّ السَّيِّئَةَ لَا تُحْبِطُ الْحَسَنَةَ، بَلِ الْحَسَنَةُ تُذْهِبُ السَّيِّئَةَ،
