Day 29 – Sincerity In Seeking Knowledge

From Abu Hurairah the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said:
من تعلَّم علمًا مما يبتغى به وجهَ اللهِ تعالى ، لا يتعلَّمُه إلا ليُصيبَ به عرضًا من الدنيا لم يجِدْ عَرْفَ الجنةِ يومَ القيامةِ .
‘Whosoever learnt knowledge desiring by it the Face of Allaah, but he does not learn it except to acquire a portion of the Dunya will not find the fragrance of Paradise on the Day of Judgement.’

From Abu Hurairah who said that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said:
مَن تعلَّمَ العِلمَ ليباهيَ بهِ العلماءَ
او يماريَ بهِ السُّفَهاءَ
او يصرِفَ بهِ وجوهَ النّاسِ إليهِ
أدخلَهُ اللهُ جَهنَّمَ.
‘Whosoever learnt knowledge to compete and boast with it to the scholars, to debate the foolish ones and to turn the faces of the people towards him, then Allaah will enter that person to the Hell-fire.’

Hafidh ad-Dhahabi -Rahimahullaah- said
‘Perhaps seeking knowledge – which is obligation and an emphasised recommendation – is dispraised in regards to some men. Like the one who seeks knowledge to boast to the scholars, to debate with it the foolish, and to turn the sights of the people towards him, or to be regarded as great and to be put forward in front of the people.
Likewise is seeking knowledge to acquire from the Dunya (worldly life) wealth, status and to be elevated, then he would be one of the three types by whom the hell fire will be stoked.’

Shaykh Rabee bin Hadi al-Madkhali said:
‘I caution you dear brothers from entering the worldly intentions, its ranks, its status and its authoritative power into the matter of studying and seeking knowledge.
Indeed, seeking knowledge is worship and it is the best type of worship, in fact the Deen of Allaah cannot be established, nor can worship or Jihad be established and nor can life be established, except with this knowledge.
However, it is upon us to be sincere in this worship.
{ من طلب علما مما يراد به وجه الله ليصيب به عرضا من الدنيا لم يرح رائحة الجنة* }.
‘Whosoever sought knowledge desiring by it the Face of Allaah, but he does not learn it except to acquire a portion of the Dunya will not find the fragrance of Paradise.’
This is a very important point, a great matter it is necessary that students of knowledge pay attention to it.’

إخلاص في طلب العلم
من تعلَّم علمًا مما يبتغى به وجهَ اللهِ تعالى ، لا يتعلَّمُه إلا ليُصيبَ به عرضًا من الدنيا لم يجِدْ عَرْفَ الجنةِ يومَ القيامةِ . يعني ريحَها

عن أبي هريرة قال قال رسولَ اللهِ ﷺ :
مَن تعلَّمَ العِلمَ ليباهيَ بهِ العلماءَ ويجاريَ بهِ السُّفَهاءَ ويصرِفَ بهِ وجوهَ النّاسِ إليهِ أدخلَهُ اللهُ جَهنَّمَ.
الألباني (ت ١٤٢٠)، صحيح ابن ماجه ٢١١ • حسن • أخرجه أبو داود (٣٦٦٤)، وأحمد (٨٤٥٧) بمعناه، وابن ماجه (٢٦٠)
قال فضيلة الشيخ العلامة ربيع المدخلي حفظه الله تعالى :
أحذركم أيها اﻹخوة أن تدخلوا نيات الدنيا ومناصبها وجاهها وسلطانها في قضية التعلم و طلب العلم ، فإن العلم عبادة من أفضل العبادات ، بل لا يقوم دين الله ، ولا تقوم العبادات ولا يقوم الجهاد ، ولا تقوم الحياة إلا بهذا العلم ، ولكن علينا أن نخلص في هذه العبادة ، { من طلب علما مما يراد به وجه الله ليصيب به عرضا من الدنيا لم يرح رائحة الجنة }.
فهذه نقطة مهمة جدا ، وأمر عظيم ينبغي أن ننبه له طلاب العلم .
