An Explanation
Definition of Ikhlaas
Shaykh ul Islaam, al-Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- said:
‘That a person’s actions are not combined with a stain from the stains of what the soul desires, which is either requesting beautification of the action in the hearts of the creation, or requesting their praise and escaping from their dispraise, or requesting their regard of him as great, or requesting their wealth, or their service and love, and that they take care of his needs, or requesting their love for him, or other matters from deficiency and stains which are all under the same banner, which is desiring other than Allaah with his actions no matter who or what it is.’
[Madarij as-Salikeen 2/92]
Allaah Ta’ala said:
<< Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); None shall enter it save the most wretched, Who denies and turns away.
And Al-Muttaqoon (the pious and righteous) will be far removed from Hell. He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, and has in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, except only the desire to seek the Face of his Lord, the Most High; He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise).>>
[Lail: 14-21]
The explainer of the Qur’aan Imam al-Qurtubi (d. 671 A.H.) said about the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:
<< has in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return >> [al-Layl: 14] this means, that he does not give charity to receive a reward in the worldly life for a blessing, but in fact he desires the Face of his Lord the Most High, He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise).>> This means, that Allaah will grant him in Paradise that which will please him, and that is that Allaah will give him in multitude of what he had spent in charity.’
[Tafseer al-Qurtubi 20/88]
The great scholar Ibn Katheer (d. 774 A.H.) said:
‘Many of the scholars of Tafseer mentioned that these Ayaat were revealed about Abu Bakr as-Siddiq -RadhiAllaahu anhu, to the point that some of the scholars of Tafseer said a consensus of the scholars of Tafseer in this regard.’
[Tafseer Ibn Katheer 8/422]
Deserving of Mercy
Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah Rahimahullaah said:
‘Everyone who was complete in implementing sincerity to “La ilaha ilAllaah” (none has the right of worship except Allaah) in knowledge, Aqeedah, doing deeds, loyalty to Allaah and not having loyalty to the kuffar, then he is the most deserving of Mercy.’
