My Heart Almost Flew Away……..

Jubayr bin Mut’im -Radhi Allaah anhu- who said: I heard the Prophet-SallAllaahu alayhi wa Salam recite ‘Soorah Tur’ in the Maghrib prayer, when he reached this Ayaah:

أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ () أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ () أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ

《 Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm Belief.   Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like?》[Soorah  Tur: 35-37]

Jubayr said:

كَادَ قَلْبِي أَنْ يَطِيرَ.

‘My heart almost flew away, and this was when Eemaan first settled in my heart.’

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr said:

‘Al-Khattabi said: ‘It was as if he became unsettled and alarmed when he heard this Ayaah due to his understanding of what it meant and knowing what it implies, he understood the evidence and due to his gentle character he acknowledged it. That was the saying of Allaah:

《 Were they created by nothing 》it has been said that its meaning is that people are not more difficult to create than creating the heavens and the earth; This is because they were created from nothing,  meaning that, were people created for no purpose without commands or prohibitions? It has also been said the meaning is, were they created without a creator? And that is not possible, so they must have a Creator.

If they reject the creator then they must be creators of their own selves, and that is more severe in evil and falsehood, how can something that does not exist create. Therefore, if both arguments are false, then the evidence against them is that they have a Creator.

Then Allaah said: 《 Or did they create the heavens and the earth?  》meaning, if they hold it to be correct that they created themselves then they should be able to claim to create the heavens and the earth, and that is not possible, so the proof has been established.

Then Allaah said: 《Nay, but they have no firm Belief.》Allaah informs us  as to why their Eemaan was blocked, namely the absence of Al-Yaqeen (certainty) which is granted by Allaah, and cannot be acquired except by Allaah granting that capability, this is why Jubayr became so alarmed that his heart was about to fly away,  and it inclined to Islaam.’

Shaykh Arafat al-Muhammadi said:

‘It is mentioned from the hadeeth of al-Mut’im from the hadeeth of Jubayr bin Mut’im -Radhi Allaah anhu- this companion was from the seniors of the Quraish, this was before he accepted Islaam, he came to Madinah whilst he was a non-Muslim, he came to free some of the prisoners who had been caught in the battle of Badr. When he came, – and this hadeeth is in Saheeh al-Bukhari, he came and heard the recitation of the Prophet  -alayhi as-Salat wa-Salaam- in the Maghrib prayer, he was reciting Soorah Tur in the Maghrib prayer, so what did Jubayr say:

After that he -Radhi Allaah anhu- said, ‘My heart almost flew away.’

What did he hear? He heard an Ayaah or two Ayaat from Soorah Tur:

أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُونَ () أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ () أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ () أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ () أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ ()

《  Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators?   Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no firm Belief.   Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 》[Soorah  Tur: 35-37]

These are the Ayaat which he heard then said: ‘My heart almost flew away.’

كاد قلبي أن يطير

عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ -رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ- قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عليه وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِالطُّورِ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ:
أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ أَمْ هُمْ الْخَالِقُونَ. أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بَلْ لَا يُوقِنُونَ. أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمْ الْمُسَيْطِرُونَ.
قَالَ: كَادَ قَلْبِي أَنْ يَطِيرَ.
رواه البخاري.
وقال ابن حجر: ” قال الخطابي: كأنه انزعج عند سماع هذه الآية لفهمه معناها ومعرفته بما تضمنته، ففهم الحجة فاستدركها بلطيف طبعه، وذلك من قوله تعالى:
﴿ أَمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ ﴾ قيل: معناه: ليسوا أشد خلقًا من خلق السماوات والأرض؛
لأنهما خلقتا من غير شيء، أي: هل خلقوا باطلاً لا يؤمرون ولا ينهون؟
وقيل: المعنى: أم خلقوا من غير خالق؟ وذلك لا يجوز فلا بد لهم من خالق، وإذا أنكروا الخالق فهم الخالقون لأنفسهم، وذلك في الفساد والبطلان أشد؛ لأن ما لا وجود له كيف يخلق، وإذا بطل الوجهان قامت الحجة عليهم بأن لهم خالقًا.
ثم قال: ﴿ أَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ ﴾ أي: إن جاز لهم أن يدعوا خلق أنفسهم فليدعوا خلق السماوات والأرض، وذلك لا يمكنهم، فقامت الحجة.
ثم قال: ﴿ بَل لا يُوقِنُونَ ﴾ فذكر العلة التي عاقتهم عن الإيمان وهو عدم اليقين الذي هو موهبة من الله ولا يحصل إلا بتوفيقه؛ فلهذا انزعج جبير حتى كاد قلبه يطير، ومال إلى الإسلام”

كاد قلبي أن يطير
فقد جاء من حديث المطعم، من حديث جبير بن مطعم -رضي الله عنه-
هذا الصحابي الذي كان من أكابر قريش، هذا قبل أن يُسلم جاء إلى المدينة وهو كافر، جاء من أجل أن يفك قيد بعض الأسرى الذين أسروا في غزوة بدر، فلما جاء، والحديث في صحيح البخاري، دخل فسمع قراءة النبي -عليه الصلاة والسلام- في صلاة المغرب، وهو يقرأ في المغرب بسورة الطور، فماذا قال؟ قال: وذلك أول ما وقر الإيمان في قلبي.
قال بعد ذلك -رضي الله عنه-: كاد قلبي أن يطير، ماذا سمع؟ سمع آية في سورة، أو آيتين في سورة الطور: ﴿أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَيْطِرُونَ (٣٧) أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ (٣٨) أَمْ لَهُ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُونَ﴾[الطور: 37-39]
هذه الآيات سمعها فقال: كاد قلبي أن يطير.
