Day 14 Beginning the Day with Sincerity

From Abdurrahman bin Abzi that the Prophet -sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam- used to teach us, that when we wake up we should say:

أَصْبَحْنا على فِطْرَةِ الإسلامِ، وكَلِمَةِ الإِخْلاصِ، ودِينِ نبيِّنا محمدٍ، ومِلَّةِ أَبَيْنا إبراهيمَ حَنِيفًا [مسلمًا] وما كان مِنَ المُشْرِكِينَ

‘We have awoken in the morning being upon the natural disposition of Islaam and upon the statement of sincerity, upon the Deen of our Prophet Muhammad and upon the nation of our father Ibraheem who was upright, a Muslim and was not from the Mushrikeen.’

‘Asbahna ala Fitratil Islaam, wa Kalimatil Ikhlaas wa Deen Nabeeyina Muhammad wa Millat Abeena Ibraheem Hanifaan Musliman wa maa kaana min al-Mushrikeen’

[Collected by Nisa’ee in ‘Amal al-Yawm wal Laylah, Ibn Sunni, Darmi, Tabarani and Al-Albaani graded it Saheeh in Silsilah as-Saheehah no. 2989]

In another wording:

‘The Prophet -sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam- used to teach us that when we wake up and reach the evening…..

An Explanation

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimahullaah- said:

‘The most complete of the Prophets in their Tawheed of Allaah are the two Khaleel (friends of Allaah) Muhammad and Ibrahim – May the praises of Allaah and His security be upon them.

They undertook Tawheed with the like that others did not, with knowledge, understanding, the situation and Dawa to the creation, and jihad.
There is no Tawheed more complete then that which the Messengers undertook and called to, and fought against the nations because of it.
This is why Allaah -Subhanahu- ordered His Prophet to take those Prophets as examples to follow in Tawheed.
Just like Allaah -Subhanahu- said after mentioning Ibrahim and his debate with his father and his people, about negating Shirk and mentioning the correctness of Tawheed and also about the Prophets from his lineage, then Allaah said:

《They are those whom We gave the Book, Al-Hukm (understanding of the religious laws), and Prophethood. But if these disbelieve therein (the Book, Al-Hukm and Prophethood), then, indeed We have entrusted it to a people (such as the Companions of Prophet Muhammad) who are not disbelievers therein. They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance.>>

[Surah Al-An’am 89-90]

There is nothing more complete than the Tawheed for which the Messenger of Allaah was commanded to take those Prophets as an example.

So when these Prophets implemented Tawheed with knowledge, action, with Dawa and Jihad then Allaah made them leaders for the creation, guiding them with Allaah’s command and they called to His command.

Allaah made it such that the creation follow them, following them in what they commanded and keeping away from that which they prohibited.

Allaah distinguished the followers of the Prophets with happiness, success and guidance, but for those who opposed the Prophets then they will be wretched and misguided.

It was said to the Imam of the Prophets and their senior Ibraheem, the friend of Allaah:

إِنِّی جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامࣰاۖ قَالَ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِیۖ قَالَ لَا یَنَالُ عَهۡدِی ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ

《Verily, I am going to make you a leader (Prophet) of mankind.” Ibrahim said, “likewise of my offspring (to make them leaders).” Allaah said, “My Covenant (Prophethood, etc.) does not include Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).”》

[Surah Al-Baqarah 124]

This means that the Mushrik will not be granted leadership, and this is why Allaah advised His Prophet Muhammad to follow the Millat (nation) of Ibraheem  and the Prophet would teach his Companions that in the morning they should say:

So the Millat (nation) of Ibrahim was Tawheed and the Deen of Muhammad was what he brought from Allaah in statement, action and in belief.

The statement of Ikhlaas is the testification of La ilaha illa Allaah (there is none worthy of worship except Allaah).

Fitrat al-Islaam (natural disposition of Islaam) is what Allaah created His worshippers upon, from loving Him, His worship alone who has no associate.

Submission to Him, servitude of worship, humility, with obedience and Innaabah – (turning repentantly).

So this is Tawheed of the specific of the specific, and whoever turns away from Tawheed then he is from the foolish of fools.’
