Those who Resembled the Prophet

Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr (d. 852 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- said:
‘Those who used to resemble the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- other than al-Hasan and al-Hussain:
Jafar bin Abee Talib,
and his son Abdullaah bin Jafar,
Qoothamu bin al-Abbas bin AbdulMutalib, – وَقُثَمُ بن الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
Abu Sufyaan bin al-Harith bin AbdulMutalib,
Muslim bin Aqeel bin Abee Talib.
From those other than the Bani Hashim:
as-Saib bin Yazeed al-Mutlabi a forefather of Imam ash-Shafiaee, السَّائِب بن يزِيد المطلبي
Abdullaah bin Aamir bin Kurayzi al-Abshami,
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ الْعَبْشَمِيُّ
Kabiss bin Rabee’ah bin Adee, وَكَابِسُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ
which comes to ten people.
Then I found that Ibraheem the son of the Prophet Muhammad -alayhi as-Salam- used to resemble him.’

- Ibraheem the son of the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam
From Ibn Abi Awfaa -RadiAllaahu anhu- that it was said to him: ‘Did you see Ibraheem the son of the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam?’
He answered:
‘Yes, he passed away whilst he was small. He was the one who resembled the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- the most from the people. If Allaah had destined that there would have been a Prophet after Prophet Muhammad, then the Prophet’s son Ibraheem would have lived.’

• al-Hasan bin Ali al-Qurashi al-Hashimi
From Anas bin Malik -RadiAllaahu anhu- who said:
لَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ أَشْبَهَ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ.
‘There was none who resembled the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- more than al-Hasan bin Ali.’
[Saheeh al-Bukhari]
From Uqbah bin al-Harith who said:
‘I went out with Abu Bakr as-Siddiq -RadhiAllaahu anhu- after the Asr prayer after the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- had passed away a few nights earlier. Ali -RadiAllaahu anhu- was walking alongside him and passed by Hasan bin Ali who was playing with some children, so he carried him on his shoulders and he said, how wonderful he resembles the Prophet and not Ali.’
Uqbah said Ali laughed.

• Jafar bin Abee Talib al-Qurashi al-Hashimi
From al-Bara that the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said to Jafar bin Abee Talib:
أَشْبَهْتَ خَلْقِي وَخُلُقِي
‘You resemble me in my appearance and my manners.’
[Saheeh al-Bukhari]
• Abdullaah bin Jafar bin Abee Talib al-Qurashi al-Hashimi
عبد الله بن جعفر بن أبي طالب القرشي الهاشمي
His Kuniya was Abu Jafar. His mother, whose name was Asmaa bint Umayss, gave birth to him in Habasha (Ethiopia). He was the first one born in Islaam in the land of Habasha (Ethiopia).

• Qoothamu bin al-Abbas bin AbdulMutalib
قُثَمُ بن الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
His mother was Umm Fadl Lubaabah bint al-Harith al-Hilaaliyah. She was the second woman to accept Islaam after Khadijah had accepted Islaam.
Abu Abdullaah al-Hakim mentioned in ‘Tareekh Nisaboor’:
كَانَ شَبِيْهَ النَّبِيِّ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَآخِرَ النَّاسِ بِهِ عَهْداً.
He used to resemble the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- and the last one of the people to have contact with him.
Ibn Abbas said:
كَانَ آخِرَ مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ لَحْدِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – قُثَمُ.
The last person to get out of the niche of the grave after burying the Prophet was Qoothamu.’

• Abu Sufyaan bin al-Harith bin AbdulMutalib
أَبُو سُفْيَانَ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
Ibn Mubarak said:
‘He was from those who resembled the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’

• Muslim bin Aqeel bin Abee Talib
مسلم بن عقيل بن أبي طالب الهاشمي
From Amr bin Shuaib who said I was informed by the one who heard Abu Hurairah saying:
‘I never saw a son from AbdulMutalib more resembling the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- than Muslim bin Aqeel.’

• as-Saib bin Ubayd bin Yazeed al-Mutlabi
السَّائِب بن عبيد بن عبد يزيد بن هاشم بن عبد المطلب بن عبد مناف المطلبي
Ibn al-Atheer -Rahimaullaah- said:
‘as-Saib bin Ubayd bin Yazeed is the grandfather of ash-Sha’afiee.
as-Saib used to resemble the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.
Al-Qadi Abi at-Tayyib at-Tabari said, as-Saib accepted Islaam on the day of Badr, he was the carrier of the flag of Banu Hashim and he was taken captive and he ransomed himself and accepted Islaam.’

• Abdullaah bin Aamir bin Kareezi al-Qurashi al-‘Abshami
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ الْعَبْشَمِيُّ
Imam Dhahabi said:
‘He conquered the area of Khurasan.
He saw the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam. His father, Aamir was the cousin of the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam. Caesar was killed during his leadership, so he made Ihraam from Nisaboor in gratitude to Allaah, and he worked as a water bearer in Arafat, he was very generous and giving.’

Ibn Hajr said:
‘More than one scholar said that Aamir was brought to the Prophet -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- when he was born and he said, He resembles us.’
[Tahdheeb at-Tahdheeb]
• Kabiss bin Rabee’ah
Ibn al-Jawzi said:
‘There was a man from the Tabi’aeen (successors of the Companions) who was called Kabiss bin Rabee’ah as-Saami . . . Who resembled the Prophet.
Muwaweeyah sent for him and kissed him between his eyes, and gave him a herd of livestock. When Anas bin Malik would see him, he would cry.’
[Kashf al-Mushkil min Hadeeth as-Saheehayn 1/42]
Ibn Aasaakir brings a chain that Anas saw Kabiss bin Rabee’ah and he cried.
Anas said: Whoever would love to look at the Messenger of Allaah then he should look at Kabiss. Seven of the Companions testified to that as did Anas.’

In the book ‘ash-Shifa’:
It reached Muwaweeyah that Kabiss resembled the Messenger of Allaah, and when Kabiss entered through the door of the house, Muwaweeyah stood up from his bed and kissed him between his eyes and gave him things due to him resembling the form of the Messenger of Allaah.’

■ The one who resembled the Prophet in manners
▪︎Abdullaah bin Mas’ood:
إِنَّ أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ دَلًّا ، وَسَمْتًا ، وَهَدْيًا ، بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لَابْنُ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ
‘Indeed the person most resembling me, in good manners and speech, his humility, and having respect and dignity is Ibn Umm Abd (Abdullaah bin Mas’ood).’

▪︎Fatima the daughter of the Messenger
From Ayesha the mother of the Believers who said:
مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَشْبَهَ سَمْتًا ، وَدَلًّا ، وَهَدْيًا ، بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ فِي قِيَامِهَا وَقُعُودِهَا مِنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
‘I never saw any one resembling the Messenger of Allaah in humility, in good manners and speech, and having respect and dignity other than Fatima the daughter of the Messenger of Allaah -SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- in the way she stood and sat.’
[Tirmidhi & he said it was Hasan Saheeh and Al-Albaani authenticated it.]
أكثر الناس شبها بالنبي ﷺ*
قال الحافظ ابن حجر : ” وَالَّذِينَ كَانُوا يُشَبَّهُونَ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَيْرَ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ : جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، وَابْنُهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، وَقُثَمُ بن الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، وَأَبُو سُفْيَانَ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، وَمُسْلِمُ بْنُ عَقِيلِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ .
وَمِنْ غَيْرِ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ : السَّائِب بن يزِيد المطلبي الْجَدُّ الْأَعْلَى لِلْإِمَامِ الشَّافِعِيِّ ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ كَرِيزٍ الْعَبْشَمِيُّ ، وَكَابِسُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ ، فَهَؤُلَاءِ عَشَرَةٌ “.

- إبراهيم ابن النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم:
عن ابن أبي أوفى رضى الله عنه، أنه قيل له: هل رأيت إبراهيم ابن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ فقال: نعم، مات وهو صغير، أشبه الناس به صلى الله عليه وسلم، ولو قضي أن يكون بعده نبي لعاش ابنه إبراهيم صلى الله عليه وسلم. [الطبراني في الأوسط (6638)، وأصله عند البخاري (6194
قال الحافظ ابن حجر رحمه الله: ثم وجدت أن إبراهيم ولده عليه السلام كان يشبهه.

▪︎جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ
وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : ” أَشْبَهْتَ خَلْقِي وَخُلُقِي “.
بَابٌ : مَنَاقِبُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، صحيح البخاري
عن عقبة بن الحارث:] خرجتُ معَ أبي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رضيَ اللَّهُ عنهُ من صلاةِ العَصرِ بعدَ وفاةِ النَّبيِّ ﷺ بليالٍ، وعليٌّ عليهِ السَّلامُ يَمشي إلى جانِبِهِ، فمرَّ بحسَنِ بنِ عليٍّ يلعَبُ معَ غِلمانٍ، فاحتملَهُ على رقبتِهِ وَهوَ يقولُ: يا بابي شبَهُ النَّبيِّ ليسَ شبيهًا بعليِّ، قالَ: وعليٌّ يضحَكُ

يكنى أَبَا جَعْفَر. ولدته أمه أَسْمَاء بِنْت عميس بأرض الحبشة، وَهُوَ أول مولود ولد في الإسلام بأرض الحبشة،

▪︎ قُثَمُ بن الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ
أُمُّهُ: هِيَ أُمُّ الفَضْلِ لُبَابَةُ بِنْتُ الحَارِثِ الهِلاَلِيَّةُ، وَكَانَتْ ثَانِيَةَ امْرَأَةٍ أَسْلَمَتْ، أَسْلَمَتْ بَعْدَ خَدِيْجَةَ.
وَقَدْ ذَكَرَهُ: أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الحَاكِمُ فِي (تَارِيْخِ نَيْسَابُوْرَ) ، فَقَالَ:
كَانَ شَبِيْهَ النَّبِيِّ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – وَآخِرَ النَّاسِ بِهِ عَهْداً.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: كَانَ آخِرَ مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ لَحْدِ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ -صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ – قُثَمُ.

▪︎مُسْلِم بْن عقيل بْن أَبِي طالب الهاشمي
عَنْ (4) عَمْرو بْن شعيب قَالَ أخبرني (5) من سَمِعَ أبا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ ما رأيت من ولد عَبْد المطلب أشبه بالنَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ من مُسْلِم بْن عقيل.
البخاري – التاريخ الكبير
▪︎كابس
قال ابن الجوزي : ” وَكَانَ من التَّابِعين رجل يُقَال لَهُ كابس بن ربيعَة السَّامِي، … كَانَ يُشبههُ ، فَبعث إِلَيْهِ مُعَاوِيَة فَقبل بَين عَيْنَيْهِ ، وأقطعه قطيعة ، وَكَانَ أنس بن مَالك إِذا رَآهُ بَكَى “.
انتهى من “كشف المشكل من حديث الصحيحين” (1/42) .
وأسند ابن عساكر أن أنس رآه فعانقه وبكى، وقال: من أحب أن ينظر إلى رسول الله فلينظر إلى كابس… وشهد سبعة من الصحابة له بذلك كما شهد أنس().تاريخ دمشق (٤/٥٠-٥).
وفي “الشفا”: بلغ معاوية أن كابس يشبه برسول الله، فلما دخل عليه من باب الدار قام عن سريره، وقبل بين عينيه وأقطعه المرغاب؛ لشبهه صورة رسول الله().الشفا (١١٢/٢).
وكذلك قد يكون التشبيه بالهدي والصفات .
بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ فِي قِيَامِهَا وَقُعُودِهَا مِنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) .
رواه الترمذي (3762 ) وقال : هذا حديث حسن صحيح ، وصححه الألباني.
وعَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَتْ : ( مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَشْبَهَ سَمْتًا ، وَدَلًّا ، وَهَدْيًا ، بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ فِي قِيَامِهَا وَقُعُودِهَا مِنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) .
رواه الترمذي (3762 ) وقال : هذا حديث حسن صحيح ، وصححه الألباني.
