The True Methodology

Abu Bakr al-Arabi -Rahimahullaah said:
” لامنهج إلامنهج الصحابة رضي الله عنهم “.
‘There is no true methodology except the methodology of the Companions -may Allaah be pleased with them all.’

المنهج الحق
قال أبوبكربن العربي رحمه الله :
” لامنهج إلامنهج الصحابة رضي الله عنهم “.
القبس في شرح الموطأ(٢١٧/١)
Doing what the Prophet did
Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah Rahimahullaah said:
‘Following the Prophet is doing that what he did and in the way that he did it. Therefore, if he did an action as a way of worship then he legislated for us to to do that action as worship.
When he intended to specify a particular place or time with worship then we also specify that place with worship.

يَفْعَلَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلَ النبي
قال شيخُ الإسلامِ ابنُ تيميةَ – رحمهُ اللهُ – : في ” الفتاوى ” (1/280) : ” الْمُتَابَعَةَ أَنْ يَفْعَلَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلَ عَلَى الْوَجْهِ الَّذِي فَعَلَ ، فَإِذَا فَعَلَ فِعْلًا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْعِبَادَةِ شَرَعَ لَنَا أَنْ نَفْعَلَهُ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْعِبَادَةِ ، وَإِذَا قَصَدَ تَخْصِيصَ مَكَانٍ أَوْ زَمَانٍ بِالْعِبَادَةِ خَصَّصْنَاهُ بِذَلِكَ ” .
Followers of the Messenger SallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimuhullaah- said:
” كل من دعا إلى نفس ما جاء به الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم فهو من أتباعه ،
فلا بد أن يناله من الأذى من أتباع الشيطان بحسب حاله وحالهم والله المستعان “.
‘Everyone who calls to the same matter what the Messenger sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam came with is from his followers. Most definitely he will receive some harm from the followers of Shaytaan relative to his circumstance and their circumstance.
Allaah’s aid is sought.’

قال الامام ابن القيم -رحمه الله-:
” كل من دعا إلى نفس ما جاء به الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم فهو من أتباعه ،
فلا بد أن يناله من الأذى من أتباع الشيطان بحسب حاله وحالهم والله المستعان “.
الصواعق المرسلة (١٣٩٣/٤)
The Sun-light of the Sunnah
Ibn al-Qayyim -Rahimullaah- said:
”إذا طلعت شمس السُنة في قلب العبد؛ قطعت
من قلبه ضباب كل بدعة”
When the sun-light of the Sunnah rises in the heart of a slave of Allaah then the smog of all Bida is dispersed from his heart.’

The Example of the Companions
Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah said:
من ظن أنه يأخذ من الكتاب والسنة بدون أن
يقتدي بالصحابة ويتبع غير سبيلهم فهو من
أهل البدع .
‘Whoever presumes that he takes from the Book and the Sunnah without taking the example of the Companions and follows other than their path then he is from the Ahl ul Bida.’

Following the Path of the Companions
Allaah Ta’ala said :
{ واتبع سبيل من أناب إلي }
<<and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience.>> 31:15
Ibn Qayyim -rahimullaah- said :
‘Every single one from the Companions turned in repentance and obedience to Allaah so it is obligatory to follow their path, their statements and their beliefs.’

He also said about the Companions:
‘The Companions did not differ not even in one issue of Asma (Allaah’s Names, Sifaat (Attributes) and Afa’al (Actions).’

From Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- was asked which of the people are the best?
He -sallAllaahu said :
“أنا والذين معي ثم الذين على الأثر ثم الذين على الأثر”
Me and those with me, then those who followed them, then those who followed them.’
[Collected by Ahmad and declared Hasan by Albaani in Saheehah 1839]
قال ابن القيم رحمه الله:
” وكل من الصحابة منيب إلى الله فيجب إتباع سبيله وأقواله و إعتقاداته ” (١)
وقال أيضا رحمه الله عن الصحابة:
” لم يتنازعوا في مسألة واحدة من المسائل الأسماء والصفات والأفعال ” (٢)

حديث عظيم
سُئِل رسول الله ﷺ: أي الناس خير؟
فقال:”أنا والذين معي
ثم الذين على الأثر
ثم الذين على الأثر”
[رواه أحمد وحسّنه الألباني في الصحيحة-١٨٣٩]
The Path of Salafeeyah is the Path of Guidance
Allaah Ta’ala said:
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ
《The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor of those who went astray.》
It is none other than the path of the Salaf.
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah – rahimullaah – said:
كل من أعرض عن الطريقة السلفية الشرعية الإلهية فإنه لابد أن يضل ويتناقض ويبقى في الجهل المركب أو البسيط .
درء التعارض[٣/٨٠]
Every one who turns away from the divine path of Salafeeyah, then he is bound to go astray and contradict himself and will remain upon simple ignorance (where he knows he is ignorant), or compound ignorance (where he is ignorant of the fact that he is ignorant).’

Spreading the Sunnah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
(بلغوا عني ولو آية)
‘Convey on me even if it is just one Ayaah’
[Collected by Bukhari]
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen -Rahimahullaah said:
كلما سمحت الفرصة لنشر السنة فانشرها؛
يكن لك أجرها وأجر من عمل بها إلى يوم القيامة.
‘Whenever you get an opportunity to spread the Sunnah then do so.
You will have the reward of the Sunnah and the reward of the one who acts upon it until the Day of Judgment.’

(بلغوا عني ولو آية)

قال ابن عثيمين رحمه الله:
كلما سمحت الفرصة لنشر السنة فانشرها؛
يكن لك أجرها وأجر من عمل بها إلى يوم القيامة.

The Qur’aan & Sunnah Are both Revelation
القرآن والسنة كلاهما الوحي
From Hassan bin Atteyya (d. 130 A.H.) who said:
” ﻛﺎﻥ ﺟﺒﺮﻳﻞ ﻳﻨﺰﻝ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ صلى الله عليه وسلم ﺑﺎﻟﺴُّﻨَّﺔ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻳﻨﺰﻝ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺑﺎﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ، ﻭﻳﻌﻠﻤﻪ ﺇﻳﺎﻫﺎ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻳﻌﻠﻤﻪ اﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ “.
‘Jibra’eel used to come to the Messenger of Allaah sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam with the Sunnah as he would come to him with Qur’aan.
He would teach him the Sunnah as he would teach him the Qur’aan.’

رواه المروذي في السنة ، والمصنف في الكبرى، واللالكائي، والهروي، والدارمي .
أخرجه أبو داود في مراسيله ص 361، باب في البدع، ح 536 ,وقال محققه شعيب الأرناؤوط: رجاله ثقات رجال الشيخين، غير أنّه مرسل.
القرآن والسنة كلاهما الوحي
ﻋﻦ ﺣﺴﺎﻥ ﺑﻦ ﻋﻄﻴﺔ ﻗﺎﻝ :
” ﻛﺎﻥ ﺟﺒﺮﻳﻞ ﻳﻨﺰﻝ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ اﻟﻠﻪ صلى الله عليه وسلم ﺑﺎﻟﺴُّﻨَّﺔ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻳﻨﺰﻝ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺑﺎﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ، ﻭﻳﻌﻠﻤﻪ ﺇﻳﺎﻫﺎ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻳﻌﻠﻤﻪ اﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ “.
