The Sun-light of the Sunnah

Ibn al-Qayyim –Rahimahullaah– said:

‏”إذا طلعت شمس السُنة في قلب العبد؛ قطعت من قلبه ضباب كل بدعة

When the sun-light of the Sunnah rises in the heart of a slave of Allaah then the smog of all Bid’ah is dispersed from his heart.’

[Mudarij as-Salikeen 1/374]

Beautification of this Ummah

Imam at-Tirmidhi said:
‘Muhammad bin Ismaeel (Bukhari) was with Abdullaah bin Muneer, and when he got up to leave,

Abdullaah said to him:
‘O Abu Abdullaah, may Allah make you the beautification of this Ummah.’

Abu Isa (Tirmidhi) said:
‘His Dua was answered for him, may Allaah make him the beautification for the Ummah and an example to be followed for the Imams.’

[From ‘Tuhfatul al-Ikhbaari be Tarjamatul Bukhari p.186]

The Example of the Companions

Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah –Rahimahullaah– said:

‘Whoever presumes that he takes from the Book and the Sunnah without taking the example of the Companions and follows other than their path then he is from the Ahl ul Bida.’

[Mukhtasir Fatawa al-Misareeyah p. 556]

Own Opinions

Shaykh Muhammad Bazmool said:

‘I do not know of an issue of which Shaykh Albaani chose an opinion where no one from the people of knowledge preceded him.

He always takes great concern to mention his Salaf in that which he chooses to act upon from the opinions that appear to him to be in agreement with the texts [the Book and the Sunnah].’

[Al-Intisaar li ahl ul Hadeeth p. 202]

Desiring Knowledge

Imam Malik -rahimahullaah- said:

‘Indeed there are people who desired worship, but neglected knowledge so they rebelled against the Ummah of Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – with their swords, and if they had desired knowledge then it would have prevented them from rebelling.’

[From ‘Miftah dar as-Sa’ada 1/119]

Mistakes & Advising

The senior scholar Rabee bin Hadi al-Mudkhali -hafidhullaah- said:

‘If your brother makes a mistake, advise him with gentleness and present him proofs and evidences through which Allaah will benefit him.

As for sitting waiting in ambush for someone to make a mistake and to rouse up hatred here and there that so-and-so did such-and-such. These are the ways of the Shayateen not the way of the people of the truth.’

[Bahjatul Qaaree p.107]

Harming a Muslim

Al-Fudayl bin Ayaad said:

والله ما يحلُّ لك أن تؤذي كلبا ولا خنزيرا بغير
حق فكيف تؤذي مسلما ؟! “

I swear by Allaah it is not permissible for you to unnecessarily harm a dog or a pig, so how can you harm a Muslim?!’

[Seera a’alam an -Nubala 8/327]

Not knowing Allaah

The Imam al-Maqdasee -rahimahullah- said:

فلو أن الإنسان عرف كل شئ ولم يعرف الله
سبحانه، كان كأنه لم يعرف شيئا .

‘If a person knew everything and did not know Allaah -Subhanahu- then it is as if he knew nothing.’

[From ‘Mukhtasir Minhaj al -Qasideen p. 169]

Knowledge is Rizq (Provision) from Allaah

Shaykh AbdulAziz bin Baz said:

‘It is known that acquiring knowledge is from the best of provisions,

It is exiting from the confinement of ignorance and its darkness to the vastness of knowledge and its light

Allaah Ta’ala said:

《وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا》
《and whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him.》

Acquiring beneficial knowledge is from the greatest of success and ease;

Because the student of Sharia’ knowledge acquires with his knowledge

Many types of goodness and means of salvation which cannot easily be acquired by the ignorant person.’

[Fatawa Shaykh bin Baz 1/350]

Copying the Companions

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah said:

” ﻣﺸﺎﺑﻬﺔ ﺍﻟﺼﺤﺎﺑﺔ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺘﺎﺑﻌﻴﻦ ﺗﺰﻳﺪ ﺍﻟﻌﻘﻞ ﻭ ﺍﻟﺪﻳﻦ ﻭﺍﻟﺨﻠﻖ ” .

‘Copying the Sahaba and the Taba’een increases the intellect, Deen and mannerisms.’

[Iqtida as-Siraat al-Mustaqeem 1/527]
