‘When Shaykh Ahmad Muhammad Shakir (d. 1377 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- researched the book ‘Musnad’ of Imam Ahmad, Shaykh Abdurahman bin Yahya al-Mu’alami al-Yemani (d. 1386 A.H.) sent him a number of amendments, corrections and comments regarding a fair number of places in his research of ‘Musnad’. When Shaykh Ahmad Shakir saw these points of amendments and how good they were and their quality, he decided to print them in the last volume of ‘Musnad al-Imam Ahmad’.
One year Shaykh Ahmad Shakir visited the lands of the two sacred Masajid [Makkah & Madinah] and he desired to see shaykh al-Mu’alami al-Yemani, so he entered the library of the al-Haram al-Makki and went towards the manager’s quarters in the library.
At that time Shaykh Sulayman bin AbdurRahman as-Saneeaa’ -may Allaah have mercy upon him- was managing the library.
During Shaykh Ahmad’s conversation with Shaykh Sulayman as-Saneeaa’, all of a sudden Shaykh al-Mu’alami al-Yemani came with tea and water, he placed them in front of shaykh Ahmad Shakir and as-Saneeaa’, and walked off to read, at that same time Shaykh Ahmad Shakir said in his Egyptian dialect:
‘I want to see Shaykh al-Mu’alami al-Yemani.’
Shaykh as-Saneeaa’ said to him: ‘The person who brought you tea and water was al-Mu’alami al-Yemani.’
It was barely a few moments and Shaykh Ahmad Shakir was overcome with crying.’

عندما حقق الشيخ أحمد محمد شاكر رحمه الله مسند الإمام أحمد، أرسل له الشيخ عبدالرحمن بن يحيى المعلمي اليماني رسالة فيها عدد من الاستدراكات والملحوظات على مواضع عدة من تحقيقه للمسند، فلما رأى الشيخ أحمد شاكر هذه الاستدركات وحسنها وجودتها قرر طباعتها في الجزء الأخير من مسند الإمام أحمد .
وفي إحدى السنوات زار الشيخ أحمد شاكر بلاد الحرمين، فرغب في رؤية الشيخ المعلمي اليماني، فدخل مكتبة الحرم المكي واتجه صوب مدير المكتبة، وكان آنذاك يديرها الشيخ سليمان بن عبدالرحمن الصنيع يرحمه الله
أثناء محادثته مع الشيخ سليمان الصنيع إذ جاء الشيخ المعلمي اليماني بالماء والشاي، ووضعهما أمام الشيخ أحمد شاكر والصنيع، وانصرف المعلمي للقراءة
في تلك الأثناء قال الشيخ أحمد شاكر (باللهجة المصرية):
عاوز أشوف الشيخ المعلمي اليماني .
فقال له الشيخ الصنيع : الذي أحضر لك الشاي والماء هو المعلمي اليماني .
وما هي إلا لحظات حتى أخذ الشيخ أحمد شاكر في البكاء .
