No. 21 Reasons for not having Khushoo whilst reciting the Qur’aan
The question:
‘May Allaah give you goodness, O respected Shaykh, this questioner asks, I have a problem which is when I read the Qur’aan I do not have Khushoo, nor do I understand anything, it is as if I am not even reading Arabic, in fact, sometimes I start thinking about things whilst I am reading the Qur’aan and this is with great regret. What is the reason for this, considering that I used to previously enjoy and relax when reading the Qur’aan?
Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan replied:
‘Perhaps you have mistakes and sins or attachment to the Duniya, so they prevent you from the matters of Khushoo. Khushoo is from Allaah Subhanhu wa Ta’ala however you should take the means and reasons for it.
Take the means which attract khushoo and these means for attracting Khushoo are, seeking refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan when you begin reading, and to read with your heart being present, and reflect and ponder upon the Ayaat which you read, think about them and their meanings, and read at a relaxed, calm time which is not annoying and troublesome, these are from the means.’

نص السؤال أحسن الله إليكم صاحب الفضيلة ، هذا سائل يقول : عندي مشكلة وهي أني عندما أقرأ القرآن لا أخشع ولا أفهم شيئا وكأني لا أقرأ كلاما عربيا بل وفي بعض الأحيان أفكر بشيء وأنا أقرأ القرآن للأسف الشديد فما هو السبب في هذا علما بأنني كنت سابقا أتمتع وأرتاح عند قراءة القرآن ؟
