The Sunnah
From AbdurRahman bin Mahdi -Rahimahullaah-
Malik bin Anas -RadhiAllaahu anhu – was asked about the Sunnah.
He answered:
‘It is that which is not called anything other than the Sunnah. Then he recited:
{وَأَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ} “
《And verily, this is Allaah’s Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. 》[al-Ana’am:153]

وعن عبد الرحمن بن مهدي قال: سُئِلَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ السُّنَّةِ؟ قَالَ: “هِيَ مَا لَا اسْمَ لَهُ غَيْرُ السُّنَّةِ، وَتَلَا {وَأَنَّ هَذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ} “
