Day 20 –The First to be Judged on the Day of Judgement

Translated & Compiled

By

Abbas Abu Yahya

From Abu Hurairah who said that I heard the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- saying:

‘Indeed the first of the people to be judged on the Day of Judgement is a man who was martyred and he will be brought forward. He will be presented with blessings which he was given and he will acknowledge them.

Allaah will say to him: What did you do for these blessings?’

He will say: I fought for Your sake, until I was martyred.’

Allaah will say: ‘You lied, you fought so that it could be said that so and so is brave, and that is what was said.’

Then it would be ordered to take him and drag him on his face until he is thrown into the fire.

A man learnt knowledge and he taught it, and he recited the Qur’aan, he will be brought forward. He will be presented with blessings which he was given and he will acknowledge them.

Allaah will say to him: What did you do for these blessings?’

He will say: I learnt knowledge and taught it, and I recited Qur’aan for Your sake.’

Allaah will say: ‘You lied, you did so, so that it could be said that he is a scholar, and you recited Qur’aan, so it could be said you are a reciter, and that is what was said.’

Then it would be ordered to take him and drag him on his face until he is thrown into the fire.

A man will be blessed and given different types of wealth and he will be brought forward. He will be presented with blessings he was given and he will acknowledge them.

Allaah will say to him: What did you do for these blessings?’

He will say: I did not leave off a path which You love, that money is spent for, except that I spent in that path for You.’

Allaah will say: ‘You lied, you did so, so that it could be said that you are generous, and that is what was said.’

Then it would be ordered to take him and drag him on his face until he is thrown into the fire. ‘

An Explanation

Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddeen Al-Albaani commented saying:

‘It was said for each of these three types: ‘and that is what was said.’ It was said to the scholar, you disseminated knowledge so that it could be said, so and so is a scholar, and you have received your reward (in the Dunya of what they said).

So, the people began saying so and so is a scholar, there is none like him from the scholars.

and that is what was said.’  This means, that you have achieved your reward hastily (in the worldly life) and now take your delayed recompense, which is none other than the Hell-Fire.

If only he had been saved with his initial capital (his knowledge), however, now knowledge is not for him or against him, and his ending was in the Hell-Fire.

This was because he took his knowledge as a means for the Dunya (worldly life), he did not fear Allaah regarding that knowledge, nor did he intend with it the Face of Allaah, and he was thrown into the Hell-Fire, and likewise the same was said to the rich person and the Mujahid, ‘and that is what was said,’ to the Mujahid, that you intended that it would be said that so and so is brave, ‘and that is what was said’.

Likewise, the rich person intended that it would be said, so and so is generous, ‘and that is what was said’. So, they were all taken to the Hell-fire, they were the three types about whom the Messenger -alayhi as-Salam- said:

‘Indeed the first of the people to be burnt by the Hell-Fire on the Day of Judgement…’ whereas it was supposed that these would be the foremost and primarily entering Paradise, specifically the people of knowledge, since Allaah Azza wa Jal said about them:

<< Allaah will exalt in degree those of you who believe, and those who have been granted knowledge.>>

Hence, when the people were devoid of this second condition which is sincerity in worship for Allaah in Jihad, in knowledge, in Zakat, then their worship overturns against them as evil and punishment. This is why that, from the conditions for a deed to be righteous is that firstly it is in agreement with the Sunnah, and secondly, sincerity for the Face of Allaah -the Blessed and Most High.

So, when the Islaamic Ummah returns back like this in its knowledge, returning back to the Book and the Sunnah, and its deeds, by following the Sunnah of the Messenger whilst having sincerity for the Lord of all creation. Then the Islaamic life will have a fresh start on its journey. On that day the believers will have joy with the aid of Allaah, like the Messenger -alayhi as-Salat wa Salam said:

‘Give glad tidings to this Ummah of being exalted, and the establishment of the Deen, and a lofty status and dominance and authority on the earth. Whoever from them did an action from the actions of the hereafter for the sake of the Duniya, then he will have no reward in the hereafter.’

And all praise belongs to Allaah the Lord of all that exists.’

Love of being Famous

Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddeen Al-Albaani said:

‘This time period [we live in] is a time of strange matters. It is a time where people love to be famous.

So, just as we constantly repeat and reiterate:
‘Love of being famous breaks backs.’ (Meaning it is destroys a person)
