The Companions Best of People By Shaykh AbdulMuhsin al-Abbad al-Badr[1]

Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

Shaykh AbdulMuhsin al-Abbad al-Badr said regarding the Ayaah:

<<And the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhajiroon (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansaar (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajiroon), and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allaah is well-pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.>> [Tawbah: 100]

‘In this Ayaah there is news from Allaah about Allaah being pleased with the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar: and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith), and how they were pleased with Allaah. Also that Allaah prepared for them blessed gardens in Paradise, and that is the supreme success.

The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- are the best of the Ummah of Muhammad -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- which is the best of all the nations. There are many Ayaat and Ahadeeth Mutawatira which explain their excellence and their nobility may Allaah be pleased with them and make them pleased.

Ibn Katheer said in the Tafseer of this Ayaah:

‘Allaah Ta’ala informs about Him being pleased with the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith), and how they were pleased with Allaah with what Allaah prepared for them of blessed gardens in Paradise and eternal bliss.

Ash-Sha’abi said: first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar: from those who attended the oath of allegiance (Bayat ul-Ridwaan) the year of Hudaybeeya.

Abu Musa al-Ashaari, Sa’eed bin Musayyib, Muhammad bin Sireen, al-Hasan and Qatadah said: they are those who prayed towards the two Qiblahs along with the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’

Ibn Katheer said:

‘Indeed Allaah al-Atheem informed that He was certainly pleased with the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith), so woe be to the one who hated them or cursed them, or hated or cursed some of them, especially the chief of the Companions after the Messenger, and he was the finest of them and the best of them, I mean as-Siddeeq al-Akbar, the great Khalifah Abu Bakr ibn Abi Quhafah Radhi Allaahu anhu.

Indeed a sect from the forsaken Rafidah show enmity to the best of the Companions and they hate them and curse them – we seek refuge with Allaah from that – and this indicates that their intellects are confused and their hearts are inversed.

So where are they from having Eemaan in the Qur’aan if they curse those with whom Allaah is pleased with?

As for the Ahl-ul-Sunnah then they say, ‘RadhiAllaahu anhum’ may Allaah be pleased with them, they are those whom Allaah is pleased with, and the Ahl-ul-Sunnah curse who-so-ever Allaah and His Messenger curse, they have loyalty to the one who has loyalty to Allaah and they have enmity to whoever has enmity to Allaah, they follow the Messenger and do not innovate, they imitate and follow the Prophet and do not innovate – and this is why they are the successful Party of Allaah and His believing worshippers.’

Our Shaykh, Shaykh Muhammad al-Ameen ash-Shanqeeti -Rahimullaah- said in ‘Adwaa al-Bayaan’:

‘Allaah Ta’ala clearly mentioned in this noble Ayaah that those who followed the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar with goodness that they also enter with them under the pleasure of Allaah Ta’ala and with the promise of eternity in the gardens of Paradise and the supreme success. Allaah clarified in other places that those who follow the first to embrace Islaam with goodness, share with them in goodness, like the saying of Allaah Ta’ala:

وَآخَرِينَ مِنْهُمْ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ

<< And He has sent him (Prophet Muhammad) also to others among them (Muslims) who have not yet joined them (but they will come). >> [Jumu’ah:3]

And the saying of Allaah:

وَالَّذِينَ جَاؤُوا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا

<< And those who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren >> [Hashr: 10]

And the saying of Allaah:

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مِن بَعْدُ وَهَاجَرُواْ وَجَاهَدُواْ مَعَكُمْ فَأُولَئِكَ مِنكُمْ

<< And those who believed afterwards, and emigrated and strove hard along with you, (in the Cause of Allaah) they are of you. >>
[Anfaal: 75]

It is not hidden that Allaah Ta’ala clearly mentioned in this noble Ayaah that He was pleased with the first to embrace Islaam of the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). It is a very clear evidence from the Qur’aan that who-ever cursed them and hated them then he is a deviant, opposer of Allaah Jala wa Ala, whereby he hated the one with whom Allaah was pleased with, there is no doubt that hatred for the one with whom Allaah is pleased with is opposition to Allaah Jala wa Ala – and it is disobedience and tyranny.’
