Prophet Ibraheem was only upon Tawheed By Shaykh AbdulMuhsin al-Abbad al-Badr[1]
Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya
Shaykh AbdulMuhsin al-Abbad al-Badr said regarding the Ayaah:
<<And remember when Ibraheem said to his father and his people: ‘Verily, I am innocent of what you worship, “Except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allaah Alone) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me.” And he made it [i.e. Lâ ilâha ill-Allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allaah Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring (True Monotheism), that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allaah or receive admonition). >> [Zukhruf: 26-28]
Allaah informed us about how Ibraheem the Messenger and Allaah’s Friend was far away from what his father and his people worshipped with rivals to Allaah. Also that Ibraheem’s worship is only for Allaah Alone who created him and He is the One to guide him.
This is the meaning of ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’, (There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah) – since the saying of Allaah إِنَّنِي بَرَاء مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ <<‘Verily, I am innocent of what you worship >> has the meaning of ‘La ilah’ (There is none worthy of worship) and the saying of Allaah Ta’ala
إِلاَّ الَّذِي فَطَرَنِي فَإِنَّهُ سَيَهْدِينِ<< “Except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allaah Alone) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me.” >> meaning except Allaah. This is the statement which Ibraheem placed as a result. There are those people whom Allaah -Azza wa Jal – had given success adhering to this statement, and there are those who are against that statement. The like of this Ayaah is the saying of Allaah Ta’laa from Ibraheem in Soorah Shua’ra:
<< He said: “Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, “You and your ancient fathers? “Verily! They are enemies to me, except the Lord of the ‘Alameen (all that exists); “Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; >> [Shua’ra: 75-78]
And His saying in Soorah al-Mumtahina:
<< Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibraheem and those with him, when they said to their people: “Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allaah, we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you, hostility and hatred for ever, until you believe in Allaah Alone,” except the saying of Ibraheem to his father: “Verily, I will ask for forgiveness (from Allaah) for you, but I have no power to do anything for you before Allaah.” Our Lord! In You (Alone) we put our trust, and to You (Alone) we turn in repentance, and to You (Alone) is (our) final Return,>> [Mumtahina: 4]
And His saying in Soorah al-Ankaboot:
<< And (remember) Ibraheem when he said to his people: “Worship Allaah (Alone), and fear Him, that is better for you if you did but know. “You worship besides Allaah only idols, and you only invent falsehood. Verily, those whom you worship besides Allaah have no power to give you provision, so seek your provision from Allaah (Alone), and worship Him (Alone), and be grateful to Him. To Him (Alone) you will be brought back.>> [al-Ankaboot: 16 -17]
And His saying in Soorah al-Anbiyya:
<< [Ibraheem] said: “Do you then worship besides Allaah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you?
“Woe upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allaah! Have you then no sense?” >> [al-Anbiyya: 66-67]
And His saying in Soorah Saffat:
<< He said: “Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve? “While Allaah has created you and what you make!” >> [Saffat: 95-96]
