Part One

Attacking the people of Sunnah

• Ahmad bin Ja’far al-Istakhri said, that Ahmad bin Hanbal (d. 241 A.H.) said:

وقد رأيت لأهل الأهواء والبدع والخلاف أسماء شنيعة قبيحة، يسمون بها أهل السنة،

يريدون بذلك عيبهم، والطعن عليهم،  والوقيعة فيهم، والإزراء بهم عند السفهاء والجهال

‘I saw that the people of desires and Bida and opposition gave the Ahl-ul-Sunnah (people of the Sunnah) evil titles by this they wanted to regard them as flawed and to attack them, criticising them to the foolish people and ignorant ones.’

• Abdulateef bin Abdurahman Ala-Shaykh Rahimahullaah (d. 1293 A.H.) said:

من عادة أهل البدع إذا أفلسوا من الحجة وضاقت عليهم السبل، تروحوا إلى عيب أهل السنة، وذمهم ومدح أنفسهم، والواجب أن يتكلم الإنسان بعلم وعدل

‘From the practises of the people of Bida’ when they fail and run out of evidence and all paths over them become narrowed, and they hastily look for what they think are the flaws of Ahl ul Sunnah, and dispraise them and praise their own selves. What is obligatory is that a person speaks with knowledge and justice.’

• Imam Abdurahman as-Sa’adi (d. 1376 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- said:

والمدار كله على المعاني لا على الأسماء؛ فكم سمّى أهلُ الباطل لأهل الحق بالأسماء المذمُومة، وسمّوا أنفسهم بالأسماء الممدوحةوذلك لا يَضُرُّ أهلَ الحقِّ ولا يرفعُ أهل الباطل، وإنما هذا شبكة يصطاد بها الذين لا بصيرة لهم.

‘All these matters revolve around meanings and not upon names and titles. How many names have the people of falsehood called the people of truth using dispraised titles and names. They name their own selves with praiseworthy names and titles and that does not harm the people of truth and does not raise the people of falsehood. In fact, this is a web by which they hunt down those who have no knowledge or insight.’

• Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi al-Wada’aee (d. 1422 A.H.) -Rahimahullaah- said:

‘The enemies of Islaam intentionally try to push people away from this blessed awakening by using various terms to turn Muslims away.’

He continues:

‘Those evil terms which the communist, Ba’theeyoon, Nasiryoon, Rafidh, Mubtada Soofeeyah spread in our societies to prevent the acceptance of Tawheed is none other than the word ‘Wahhabeeyya’.

So, whoever adhered to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa Aalihi wa sallam- then those groups try to push people away from him, and they apply that derogatory nickname to him to push people away from him.’

قال أحمد بن جعفر الإصطخري: قال أحمد بن حنبل:

وقد رأيت لأهل الأهواء والبدع والخلاف أسماء شنيعة قبيحة، يسمون بها أهل السنة، يريدون بذلك عيبهم، والطعن عليهم، والوقيعة فيهم، والإزراء بهم عند السفهاء والجهال. .، وأما القدرية: فإنهم يسمون أهل السنة والإثبات: مجبرة. وكذبت القدرية، بل هم أولى بالكذب والخلاف، ألغوا قدر اللَّه عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عن خلقه، وقالوا: ليس له بأهل، تبارك وتعالى.

قال العلامة/ عبداللطيف آل الشيخ رحمه الله :

( من عادة أهل البدع إذا أفلسوا من الحجة وضاقت عليهم السبل، تروحوا إلى عيب أهل السنة، وذمهم ومدح أنفسهم، والواجب أن يتكلم الإنسان بعلم وعدل) .

قال الإمام عبد الرحمن السِّعدي – رحمهُ الله :
