The Tahayeeyah of the Ka’aba is Making Tawaaf
Translated by
Abbas Abu Yahya
Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani (d.1420A.H) -Rahimullaah- mentions:
‘The Tahayeeyah of the Ka’aba is Making Tawaaf’
‘I do not know of an origin for this Hadeeth, even though this is common upon the tongues of the people.
The author of ‘al-Hidayah’ who is from the Hanafis mentioned it with the wording:
‘Who ever comes to the House (the Ka’aba) then he should welcome it with Tawaaf.’
Al-Hafidh az-Zaylaa’i indicated in his Takhreej (research) that it did not have an origin, by saying: ‘It is very strange.’
Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr was clearer about it when he said in ‘ad-Daraya’: ‘I did not find this Hadeeth.’
I (Albaani) say:
I do not know either, in the verbal Sunnah or the practical Sunnah that which supports the meaning of this Hadeeth. But rather, the general evidences mentioned about the praying before one sits in a Masjid, also includes the Masjid al-Haraam.
The opinion that the Tahayeeyah of the Ka’abah is performing a Tawaaf, opposes the general evidence to what we indicated to, so this opinion cannot be accepted unless it is affirmed, and this is impossible. Especially since it has been affirmed with experiences that it is not possible for the one entering the Masjid al-Haraam to perform Tawaaf every time he enters the Masjid during the days of the (Hajj & Ramadan) seasons.
So, praise be to Allaah Who has not made the matter difficult.
<< and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship>>[al-Hajj: 78]
What is necessary to be brought to attention is that this ruling is indeed for the person who is not in Ihraam, otherwise the Sunnah for the person in Ihraam is that he should begin with Tawaaf and then two Rakahs after it.’
