Abu Musa al-Ashari RadhiAllaahu anhu said from the Prophet:
إن بني إسرائيل كتبوا كتابا فاتبعوه وتركوا التوراة
‘Indeed Bani Israa’eel wrote a book and began following it and they left the Toorah.’
[Collected by Tabrani in ‘al-Kabeer’ and graded Hasan by al-Albaani]
• Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddeen Albaani -Rahimahullaah commented:
‘How similar is the condition of most of the Muslims today with that of those before them. They have left the Qur’aan and Hadeeth for the opinions of the scholars and have established these in the place of those.
So a ‘cultured’ person from the Muslims lives a long life but he does not know the evidences of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah But even if they know them, they do not follow the evidences and they prefer opinions to the evidences. Then we desire that Allaah gives us victory over the people of the Torah but yet we follow in their footsteps, how far off the mark! How far off the mark!’

• Shaykh Albaani also researched this same narration in Silsilah Saheehah and he graded it Hasan and commented saying:
‘What supports this hadeeth is the saying of Allaah Ta’ala about the Jews and others:
(وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا أَمَانِيَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُّونَ فَوَيْلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ الْكِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَٰذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ)
( البقرة : 78 و 79 )
《And there are among them (Jews) unlettered people, who know not the Book, but they trust upon false desires and they but guess. Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands and then say, “This is from Allaah,” to purchase with it a little price! Woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for that they earn thereby. 》 [Baqarah: 78-79]
It is authentic from Ibn Abbas -RadhiAllaahu anhumma- that he said:
‘O you Muslims! How can you ask the People of the Book about anything and your Book which Allaah sent down to your Prophet sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam is the newest information of Allaah, pure and has not been blemished.
Allaah spoke to you that the People of the Book have changed from [their] Books of Allaah, changed it and wrote with their hands and they said:
( هَٰذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا )
《”This is from Allah,” to purchase with it a little price!》[Baqarah:79]
Did not knowledge which came to them prohibit them from what they did? !
So no, -and I swear by Allaah- we never saw a man from them ask you about what was revealed to you! ‘

قال أبوموسى الأشعري رضي الله عنه:
إن بني إسرائيل كتبوا كتابا فاتبعوه وتركوا التوراة
رواه الطبراني في الكبير بإسناد حسن
علق عليه شيخنا الألباني رحمه الله بقوله:
وما أشبه حال أكثر المسلمين اليوم بمن قبلهم فقد تركوا القرآن والحديث إلى آراء العلماء وأقاموها مقامها فيعيش الرجل المتفقه منهم دهرا طويلا وهو لا يعلم أدلة الكتاب والسنة
وإن علمها فهو لا يتبعها ويؤثر عليها الآراء
ثم نحن نطمع أن ينصرنا الله على أهل التوراة ونحن نحذوا حذوهم هيهات هيهات!!
صحيح الجامع ١ / ٤٠٩
قال شيخنا الألباني رحمه الله :
‘و يشهد للحديث قوله تعالى في اليهود و غيرهم :
(وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا أَمَانِيَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُّونَ فَوَيْلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ الْكِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَٰذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ)
( البقرة : 78 و 79 )
و قد صح عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما أنه قال :
“ يا معشر المسلمين ! كيف تسألون أهل الكتاب عن شيء و كتابكم الذي أنزل الله على نبيكم صلى الله عليه وسلم أحدث الأخبار بالله محضا لم يشب . و قد حدثكم الله أن أهل الكتاب قد بدلوا من كتب الله و غيروا , ?! أولا ينهاكم ما جاءكم من العلم عن مسألتهم ?! فلا والله ما رأينا رجلا منهم يسألكم عن الذي أنزل عليكم ! “ .
