The Six Main Books and Imams of Hadeeth
Sunnan at-Tirmidhi
Name:
Abu Isa Muhammad bin Isa bin Sawra as-Sulami at-Tirmidhi

In the year 209 A.H.

In the year 279 A.H.
His main book:
Well-known as ‘as-Sunnan’. In the introduction to ‘Tuhfatul Ahwathi it mentions: ‘This book became well-known by ‘Jamia at-Tirmidhi’ with an ascription to its author, so it’s called ‘Jamia at-Tirmidhi’.’
‘al-Hakim and al-Khateeb called it ‘al-Jamia as-Saheeh’ and that was due to most of the hadeeth being authentic. Likewise, it is called ‘Sunnan at-Tirmidhi’.’

Abu Isa at-Tirmidhi said:
‘I gathered this book and presented it to the scholars of the Hijaz (the area of Makkah & Madinah) and they were pleased with it. I presented this book to the scholars of Iraq and they were pleased with it. I presented this book to the scholars of Khurasan and they were pleased with it. Whoever has this book in his home then it is as if the Prophet is in his house speaking.’

He attached himself to Muhammad bin Isma’eel al-Bukhari and learnt from him. Imam Bukhari said: ‘What I benefitted from you was more than you having benefitted from me.’

Imam Dhahabi (d. 748 A.H.) speaks of Imam al-Tirmidhi :
‘It has been said that Tirmidhi was born blind but what is correct is that he became blind in old age, after he had travelled and written down knowledge.’

At-Tirmidhi was exemplary in memorising, so much so that he was able to repeat to his teacher forty hadeeth from his teacher’s rare hadeeth in the same sitting in which the teacher narrated the hadeeth without making a single mistake of even a single letter.’

سنن الترمذی
🟢 مؤلف کا نام: ابو عیسی محمد بن عیسی بن سورہ السُّلمی الترمذی
🟢 پیدائش: سال 209 ہجری میں
🟢 وفات: سال 279 ہجری میں
🟢 آپ کی بنیادی کتاب: ‘السنن’ کے نام سے مشہور ہے۔
📃 تحفۃ الأحوذی کے مقدمہ میں ذکر ہے:
“یہ کتاب ‘جامع الترمذی’ کے نام سے مشہور ہوئی، جو اس کے مصنف کی طرف منسوب ہے، اس لیے اسے ‘جامع الترمذی’ کہا جاتا ہے۔”
📃 “الحاکم اور الخطیب نے اسے ‘الجامع الصحیح’ کہا، اور اس کی وجہ یہ تھی کہ اس میں زیادہ تر احادیث صحیح ہیں۔ اسی طرح، اسے ‘سنن الترمذی’ بھی کہا جاتا ہے۔”

📃 ابو عیسی الترمذی فرماتے ہیں:
“میں نے اس کتاب کو جمع کیا اور اسے حجاز (مکہ و مدینہ کے علاقے) کے علماء کے سامنے پیش کیا، اور وہ اس سے خوش ہوئے۔ میں نے اس کتاب کو عراق کے علماء کے سامنے پیش کیا، اور وہ اس سے خوش ہوئے۔ میں نے اس کتاب کو خراسان کے علماء کے سامنے پیش کیا، اور وہ اس سے خوش ہوئے۔ جس کے گھر میں یہ کتاب ہو، تو گویا اس کے گھر میں نبی کریم ﷺ خود فرما رہے ہوں۔”

📃 انہوں نے محمد بن اسماعیل البخاری سے وابستگی اختیار کی اور ان سے علم حاصل کیا۔ امام بخاری نے فرمایا: “جو میں نے تم سے فائدہ حاصل کیا، وہ اس سے زیادہ ہے جو تم نے مجھ سے فائدہ حاصل کیا۔”

📃 امام ذہبی (متوفی 748 ہجری) امام الترمذی کے بارے میں فرماتے ہیں:
“کہا جاتا ہے کہ الترمذی پیدائشی نابینا تھے، لیکن صحیح بات یہ ہے کہ وہ بڑھاپے میں نابینا ہوئے، اس کے بعد جب کہ وہ سفر کر چکے تھے اور علم لکھ چکے تھے۔”

📃 الترمذی حفظ میں غیر معمولی تھے، یہاں تک کہ وہ اپنے استاد کے نادر احادیث میں سے چالیس احادیث کو اسی مجلس میں بغیر کسی حرف کی غلطی کے دہرا سکتے تھے، جس میں ان کے استاد نے وہ احادیث بیان کی تھیں۔
