The Excellence of Performing Umrah in Ramadan

1 – From Abu Mu’aqal Radhi Allaahu anhumma– from the Messenger of Allaah –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam– who said:
عمرة في رمضان، تعدل حجة
‘Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj.’
[Collected by Ibn Majah & Albaani declared it Saheeh Lighayrihi in Saheeh Targheeb wa Tarheeb No. 1120.]
2 – From Ibn Abbas Radhi Allaahu anhumma– who said: the Messenger of Allaah –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam– said to a woman from the Ansaar:
‘What prevented you from performing Hajj along with us?’
She replied: ‘We did not have except two watering camels, so my son’s father and my son performed Hajj on one, and the other was left for us to get water.’
The Prophet –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam– said:
فإذا كان رمضان اعتمري فيه، فإن عمرةً في رمضان حجة
‘When Ramadan comes perform Umrah, indeed an Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to a Hajj.’

In another narration:
عمرة في رمضان تعدل حجة معي
‘Since indeed an Umrah in Ramadan is performing a Hajj with me.’
