Rejecting the Ahadeeth about the Sifat (Characteristics) of Allaah
From the Fiqh of Imam Bukhari (d. 256 A.H.)- Rahimahullah
Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani (d. 852 A.H.) -Rahimahullah said:
‘What appears from how al-Bukhari dealt with Kitab at-Tawheed (in the Saheeh of Al-Bukhari) is that he would present the Ahadeeth of the Sifat al-Muqadisah (Holy & Pure Characteristics of Allaah).
He would write every Hadeeth of the Sifat of Allaah in its chapter and he would support that with an Ayaah from the Qur’aan.
He would do this to illustrate that these Ahadeeth are not from the Akhbar al-Ahaad (singular narrations) in such a way that he would justify this in creed by presenting the Ayaat as evidence, and that whoever rejected this has both opposed the Book and the Sunnah together.
Ibn Abee Hatim collected a narration In his book ‘Raddala al-Jahmeeyah’ with an authentic chain from Salaam bin Abi Muteea’ and he is the Shaykh of the Shuyookh of al-Bukhari and he mentioned the people of Bida’ and said:
‘Woe be to them, what is it that they are rejecting from these Ahadeeth? I swear by Allaah there is nothing in the Hadeeth except that the like of it is in the Qur’aan
Allaah Ta’ala said:
” إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡبَصِیرُ”
<< indeed Allaah,He is the All-Hearer and All-Seer>>
[Surah Ghāfir: 20]
“وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ”
<< and his evil. And Allah warns you against Himself (His Punishment)>>
[Surah Āli-ʿImrān: 30]
“وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّمَوَاتُ مَطْوِيَّاتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ”
<< And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand and the heavens will be rolled up in His Right Hand. >>
[Surah Az-Zumar: 67]
“مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خلقت بيَدي”
<< Allaah said: “O Iblis (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands. >>
[Surah Ṣād: 75]
“وَكَلَّمَ ٱللَّهُ مُوسَىٰ تَكۡلِیمࣰا ”
<< -and to Musa Allaah spoke directly. >>
[Surah An-Nisāʾ: 164]
“الرَّحْمَن على الْعَرْش اسْتَوَى”
<< The Most Beneficent (Allaah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). >>
[Surah Ṭā-Hā: 5]
Also other Ayaat similar to this, and Salaam bin Muteea’ continued mentioning Ayaat from Asr until sunset.’

قال الحافظ ابن حجر العسقلاني رحمه الله:
( الذي يَظْهَرُ مِنْ تَصَرُّفِ الْبُخَارِيِّ فِي كِتَابِ التَّوْحِيدِ أَنَّهُ يَسُوقُ الْأَحَادِيثَ الَّتِي وَرَدَتْ فِي الصِّفَاتِ الْمُقَدَّسَةِ فَيُدْخِلُ كُلَّ حَدِيثٍ مِنْهَا فِي بَابٍ وَيُؤَيِّدُهُ بِآيَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ لِلْإِشَارَةِ إِلَى خُرُوجِهَا عَنْ أَخْبَارِ الْآحَادِ عَلَى طَرِيقِ التَّنَزُّلِ فِي تَرْكِ الِاحْتِجَاجِ بِهَا فِي الِاعْتِقَادِيَّاتِ وَأَنَّ مَنْ أَنْكَرَهَا خَالَفَ الْكِتَابَ وَالسُّنَّةَ جَمِيعًا.
وَقد اخْرُج بن أَبِي حَاتِمٍ فِي كِتَابِ الرَّدِّ عَلَى الْجَهْمِيَّةِ بِسَنَدٍ صَحِيحٍ عَنْ سَلَّامِ بْنِ أَبِي مُطِيعٍ وَهُوَ شَيْخُ شُيُوخِ الْبُخَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ الْمُبْتَدِعَةَ فَقَالَ: وَيْلَهُمْ مَاذَا يُنْكِرُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأَحَادِيثِ؟ وَاللَّهِ مَا فِي الْحَدِيثِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا وَفِي الْقُرْآنِ مِثْلُهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: “إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ بَصِيرٌ” “وَيُحَذِّرُكُمُ اللَّهُ نَفْسَهُ” “وَالْأَرْضُ جَمِيعًا قَبْضَتُهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَالسَّمَوَاتُ مَطْوِيَّاتٌ بِيَمِينِهِ” “مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خلقت بيَدي” “وكلم الله مُوسَى تكليما” “الرَّحْمَن على الْعَرْش اسْتَوَى” وَنَحْوُ ذَلِكَ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ أَيْ سَلَّامُ بْنُ مُطِيعٍ يَذْكُرُ الْآيَاتِ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشمس )
