Questioner:
Is it permissible for a person to read the Qur’aan for the deceased?
Shaykh:
If the reader is the son of the deceased, then he can recite for the soul of his father and mother, he can give charity and do good deeds.
His parents benefit from him, even with reading the Qur’aan, however, it is not permissible to read it at the grave, nor is it permissible to read it specifically after three days, or forty days, or annually as is the custom of many of the people.
As for reading it for the sake of Allaah and in the house, whether the reader is a son or daughter then it would only be for the father and mother.’
