17 – Writing Bismillaah

Shaykh ul Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah said:
‘Bismillah is written at the beginning of a letter just like the Prophet Sulayman wrote, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ wrote in the treaty of al-Hudaybiya, and to Caesar and other people.
It is mentioned at the beginning of all actions.
Also, when entering the home and when exiting from it for blessings and to evict the Shayateen.
It is recommended when starting an action which will follow on from another action. It is not said for an action which is by itself, so it is not said when saying La illaha illa Allaah and Alhamdulillaah etc.’

كتابة البسملة
قال شيخ الإسلام في الاختيارات (صـ51): ” وتكتب البسملة أوائل الكتب كما كتبها سليمان، وكتبها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في صلح الحديبية وإلى فيصر وغيره، وتُذكر في ابتداء جميع الأفعال، وعند دخول المنزل وعند الخروج منه للبركة وهي تطرد الشياطين، وإنما تستحب إذا ابتدأ فعلاً تبعاً لغيرها لا مستقلة فلم تجعل كالهيللة والحمدلة ونحوها “.
